Our first call of the morning was to a rather sorry sight — a young herring gull who had managed to wedge itself between two sections of fencing. In its frantic efforts to escape, it had trapped a wing tightly in the wire.

Thankfully, the kind homeowners spotted the situation and called for help. With a bit of careful wire-cutting and a lot of encouragement, Chris freed the gull and took it straight to Carisbrooke Vets for a full once-over. After some much-needed pain relief and a thorough check-up, the good news came: only minor wounds, and nothing that a bit of rest wouldn’t mend.

We rang Skippers Sanctuary, who — as ever — didn’t hesitate to step in and offered the gull a safe place to recover before release.

A huge thank you to FOTA’s Chris for attending the call, the Claire at Skippers Sanctuary, Carisbrooke Vets, and the thoughtful homeowners who made sure this gull got the help it needed. It was very much a team effort, and the gull, once properly healed, will have quite the story to tell.
