One Year of Freedom for Rescued Hens

A Heartbreaking Discovery

It’s been a year since Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary rescued a flock of hens from severe neglect — and what a transformation it’s been! Last year, the sanctuary received a call from a concerned landlord. A tenant renting a small part of his land had not been feeding the birds for the past two weeks, and the landlord wanted them removed.

When Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary arrived, the scene was heartbreaking: over 50 birds — chickens, turkeys, geese, and cockerels — were wading in mud, surrounded by the bodies of hens that hadn’t survived. The remaining birds were surviving on nothing but windfall apples and rainwater — and with all the heavy rain that year, there was plenty of both.

A Rescue and a New Beginning

Thanks to a quick response and the generosity of sanctuary spaces, Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary was able to rescue the flock and give them a safe, loving home. Fifteen of the hens came to the sanctuary, and they are now thriving.

Hens with Personality

Today, the rescued hens’ personalities have truly blossomed. They love free-roaming the sanctuary, basking in the sunshine, and enjoying plenty of treats from visitors and sanctuary helpers alike.

From Neglect to Nurture

From a life of neglect to one filled with freedom, care, and affection, these hens are a wonderful reminder of the difference that rescue and compassion can make.

We are proud to support Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary with their vet bills and their hay and feed costs, helping more animals receive the care they need and we can’t do this without you!
