From Riverway to Reunion: George Comes Home

WHAT A STORY!

We recently spotted a cat wandering in our Riverway car park. As it’s an industrial estate with no nearby housing, we wondered whether this was a lost or abandoned cat. Having reunited “Riverway Bob” with his family last year after 11 months missing, we hoped we might be able to do the same again.

Ted, one of our trustees, set up an automatic trap over five nights. Although the mystery cat visited and ate the food, he/she never quite stepped far enough inside to trigger the trap.

Then—success! The trap finally activated…
But the cat inside wasn’t the one we had been trying to catch. Instead, we found a fluffy ginger lad who was underweight, a little disheveled, and clearly in need of help. Ted took him home and scanned him for a microchip—and there it was. A quick phone call to the number registered, and his owner answered in shock, fearing the worst.

To everyone’s amazement, this beautiful boy had been missing for an incredible 2 YEARS and 2 MONTHS!
His name is George, known affectionately as Ginge, and he’s from Cowes.

Ted met his mum, Doreen, at The People’s Vet, where George saw Pete for a health check. Luckily—despite his long adventure—he was well. Doreen shared that once home, he spent the entire evening curled up on her lap. ❤️

She told us, “If he hadn’t been chipped, I would never have got him back.”
She never got over George going missing—and now she’s overwhelmed with joy to have him safely home.

An incredible story indeed, and a perfect reminder of the power of microchipping (and of Ted’s dedication!).

Well done, Ted!
Now… back to catching the other cat!
