This past week has been a busy one, filled with rescues that remind us why we do what we do.
We re-homed three lovely female guinea pigs, after their previous owner could no longer look after them due to ill health. They now live in a spacious haven shared with eight other girls previously adopted from us.
Meanwhile, our office briefly turned into a crèche for baby gulls. We had such a flurry of young arrivals that space was getting tight (and a bit noisy!)
Luckily, Claire from Skippers Sanctuary came to collect them, adding to her ever-growing flock. She also sent a lovely photo of two adult gulls both were kindly picked up by Isle of Wight Bird Rescue after likely colliding with vehicles. They’re now enjoying the sunshine and recovering well.
One of the more distressing rescues involved a crow found in East Cowes, tangled upside down in a bush with fishing wire around his legs. Thanks to the quick actions of those who found him, he was gently freed and brought to us. Carisbrooke Vets took x-rays and confirmed there were no fractures, just bruising and abrasions. He’s now with Lorna at Isle of Wight Bird Rescue, receiving medication and recovering well. We’re hopeful he’ll be released back into his territory soon.
Each animal we help is a reminder of the resilience of wildlife and the incredible network of people who care. Thank you to everyone involved this week—from finders to fosters, transporters to vets, and of course all the kind people who donate to help us—we truly couldn’t do it without you.
